The Ab Fab Life

an ab fab life is one where you survive most days defying your accident prone-ness and leave your bones unbroken, where you eat ice cream and where oprah doesn't talk about something really dumb, but gives away free stuff instead this is my ab fab-ness ;)

"vengeance of the victors"

(my LAST rant about Saddam... yes... but this guys comments from Newsweek is so good and he makes a great point)

by fareed zakaria

"The saga of Saddam's end - his capture, trial and execution is a sad metephor for America's occupation of Iraq. What might have gone right went so wrong. It is worth remembering that Saddam Hussein was not your run of the mill dictator. He created one of the most brutal, corrupt and violent regimes in modern history, something akin to Stalin's Soviet Union, Mao's China or Kim Jong Il's North Korea. Whatever the strategic wisdom for the United States, deposing him began as something unquestionably good for Iraq. But soon th Bush administration dismissed the idea of trying Saddam under international law, or in a court with ant broader legitimacy. This is the administration, after all, that could see little advantage to a United Nations mandate for its own invasion and occupation. It put Saddam's fate in the hands of the new Iraqi government dominated by Shi'ite and Kurdish politicians who had been victims of his reign. As a result, Saddam's trial which should have been the jedgement of a civilised society against a tyrant is now seen by iraq's sunnis and much of the Arab world as a farce reflecting only the victor's vengeance...
... Iraq is a tough place - but the Bush administration is not quite so blameless. IT thoughtlessly engineered a political and social revolution as intense as the FRench or Iranian one and then seemed surprised that Iraq could bot digest it happily, peacably and quickly. WE did not give them a republic. We gave them a civil war."

And that , in my opinion, is that

While I respect Fareed Zakaria as one of the best journalists of our time, he seems to make too abstract an analysis of the situation. Saddam's death is good, one way or the other, but he was tried under an Iraqi court not because the US disliked the UN, but for the simple reason that the UN wanted nothing to do with the Iraq War, and the Americans wanted the Iraqis to deal with their own dictator as they saw fit.

There's no doubt in my mind whatsoever that, if the US had a hand in the trial, Saddam would be serving a life sentence. If they simply wanted to kill him they would have shot him in the spider hole that they found him in!

um hello? george bush was senator of one of the last states in USA that still practice the death penalty. of course he would've killed him if he could. but he can't how would that look against the american policy preaching of human rights and democracy. if they had shot him in the so called spider hole how would that have looked? what excuse would they then provide for the rest of the rape and invasion of iraq? not very good at all. imagine which direction the war would have gone then and what the UN would have to say about it. its all part of a very meticulous plan indeed. invade iraq under the pretence of 'terrorism' steal their oil, help 'free' the people and then hand back the dictator for a public display of human grossness. its sick. america should be setting an example for the rest of the country if they wanted the iraqi people to deal with their dictator as they saw fit they should've stayed the hell out of the country. saddam's death is not a good thing at all. less harm would've been done if he served a life sentence in prison then now being martyred and having the whole world up in arms about the death penalty. George bush is satan. he's the one who should be hung. exorcised, castrated and then hung again from his serpents tongue and money hungry hands. he knew very well what giving saddam back would've resulted in thats why he did it. capture saddam, put him on trial in america and then fly him back him to be killed. that's twisted. nothing good will come of this. nothing good at all. sorry to argue with one of se bears friends but i was kicked out of amnesty international because i believe in the death penalty. but this is just plain wrong. wrong, manipulative and short sighted.

Typical hyperactive moonbattery from the left. You call his execution sick and then demand that George Bush, the leader of the free world etc etc, be "hung. exorcised, castrated and then hung again from his serpents tongue and money hungry hands".

There's no point debating with someone like you for the simple reason that you seem quite (in)secure about your opinions. It's a pity, because as soon as you start believing something, you stop questioning the origins of it.
